To provide a vehicle for promoting Kadampa Buddhism throughout the world, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso founded the New Kadampa Tradition and the International Kadampa Buddhist Union.

The New Kadampa Tradition, or NKT, is an association of Buddhist Centres and practitioners that derive their inspiration and guidance from the example and teachings of the ancient Kadampa Buddhist Masters, as presented by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
