The teacher

Class format

Breathing meditation

Classes start with a 10-minute breathing meditation, which is guided by the teacher – designed to settle the mind and let go of distractions, in order to get the most out of the session.

Talk on the topic

The middle of the class consists of practical teachings on how to begin and make progress in meditation. Each week is self-contained but the topics covered will vary each week exploring a variety of meditations that can be reproduced at home.

Concluding meditation

The final meditation will last around 10-15 minutes and vary depending on the focus for the week. This will help us to improve our practical experience of meditation and enable us to carry the insights we gain into our daily life.

Q) Do I need to have any experience?

A) No. Everyone is welcome, including beginners. The classes are fully guided so all you need to do is show up.

Q) Do I need to wear a specific type of clothing?

A) No. Meditation is done mainly on chairs and you can choose to wear whatever is most comfortable.

Q) Is there any physical exercise involved?

A) No. The classes focus on meditation and teachings alone. You can choose to sit on a chair or meditation cushion.

Q) Do I need to wait for the next series of classes to begin?

A) No, please feel free to drop in whenever you like. Attending the entire series of classes is highly beneficial, as each class builds on the next. However, each class is taught in such a way that if you only attend one class, you will derive benefit from it.

Q) Why do your charge for classes?

A) We are a registered charity (Charity # SC038810) run entirely by volunteers, no-one receives a salary. However, the funds we receive are used to maintain the meditation centre in good working order – any surplus is donated to the charity International Temples Project.
